IRA Distributions
Give from your IRA
For a QCD you can donate from traditional IRAs, rollover IRAs, inherited IRAs and inactive SEP IRAs or SIMPLE IRAs. If you are at least 70½, you can use your IRA to make a QCD to Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter tax-free. A QCD can satisfy all or part of your annual RMD. RMDs generally start at age 73 or 75 and are also tax free to Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. This reduces your adjusted gross income and helps pets while they wait for their forever home.
Make a tremendous impact today and help us ensure that all the pets at the Shelter get the care they need.
For a QCD, you must be 70½ or older. You can transfer funds to Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter (Friends) tax-free each year — even if that’s more than your required minimum distribution (RMD). You can contribute a maximum of $108k per year from your IRA to a charity. The money counts towards your RMD and is excluded from your adjusted gross income. You can give your RMD to Friends anytime during the year.
You need to transfer the money directly from the IRA to Friends for it to count as a tax-free transfer. Ask your IRA administrator and Friends about making a direct transfer, or you can have the IRA administrator send a check from your account to Friends. Please request to include your name and address on the check so that we may thank you for your generosity. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter or FFCAS and sent to PO Box 2321, Centreville, VA, 20122. Our Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 20-5009244.
As always, we recommend that you consult your tax or financial professional for advice for funding and age limitations before making charitable donations.
