In August 2022, a family spotted a kitten (feral at the time) taking up residence in their backyard. Although they were leaving food for him, they knew the responsible thing to do was to have him neutered and vaccinated. Thankfully the Shelter came to mind!

After participating in the Shelter’s virtual Trap/Neuter/Release information session, they borrowed a humane trap and ultimately captured the kitten. After his procedure (funded by Friends), he was returned to the family for release. However, much to their surprise, after just one night on their screened-in porch post-surgery, the kitten accepted their petting and expressed interest in coming into the house and meeting their other cats. And with that, the rest is history! “Cole” is three years old now,  is the most affectionate cat they’ve ever had, and fits right in with their existing feline brood.

The family noted, “We’re grateful that Friends of Fairfax County Animal Shelter understands the importance of spaying/neutering and vaccinating community cats and funds this important initiative.” Moreover, this experience inspired them to become monthly donors to FFCAS – WIN WIN!
