A few years ago, Scrappy was in an unfortunate situation, neglected and without proper food and care. He suffered from serious abdominal issues and was approximately 200 pounds underweight with significant eye and skin infections. Thankfully, Friends was there to provide funding to have him treated and transferred by the Middleburg Humane Foundation where he made a full recovery.
In the fall of 2021, Scrappy was taken in by a foster family who had sold their horse but still had a miniature donkey named Duncan who needed companionship. In no time, the two became the best of friends. Now, while “Scrappy” is the name of the feisty smaller pup in the old Scooby Doo cartoons, his fosters felt this sweet big boy deserved top billing as “Scooby.” And extra bonus – he has the theme song sung to him every day when he comes up for breakfast!
As the time went on, Duncan and Scooby’s friendship continued to blossom, so much so that the thought of separating them became inconceivable. So, in classic “foster fail” style, his fosters adopted Scooby! As of 2025, Scooby and Duncan are still the best of friends, “enjoying their best geriatric days in our field and bringing all the love and joy to us they possibly can.” His new family says that he is doing “awesome” — quite a relief given how he came to the Shelter. The photos speak for themselves!
