Bulletproof Bubba

Bubba was suspected to have been hit by a car and found by a sweet person who brought him to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. He was in rough shape – his eye was severely damaged and needed removal. Friends sent out an urgent plea for donations towards our Finnegan's Fund to help Bubba. Our community rallied around this sweet pup and Bubba was able to receive immediate surgery for an eye enucleation.

Precious Pepper

We are so grateful to live in a community where pets' lives are valued and respected. Poor Pepper was found on the side of the road in Maryland by a Good Samaritan and transported to a veterinary hospital in Fairfax County. Pepper was seriously injured by a suspected car accident, suffering from multiple fractures in her hip and pelvic area. The damage to her little body was extreme, but there was hope for a brighter future.

Bruno the Brave

This situation is unthinkable, especially for one of our very own community members. A woman and her dogs were struck by a vehicle while out on a walk in Fairfax County on Monday, October 24. Tragically, one of the dogs passed away at the scene and Bruno was in critical condition, as was the owner.

Intrepid Iris

This sweet little gal is Iris, and we feel so lucky that she made her way to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. Iris arrived at the Shelter with a horrendous eye injury. The injury was extreme and graphic, and her only chance at repair was to remove the injured eye and surrounding tissue. We are unsure what caused this injury as she was found as a stray, but without immediate help, Iris would have been left in a horrible state.

Rescued Rutabaga

Rutabaga was found as a stray, wandering the roads without a collar or identification. When a Good Samaritan stopped to check on Rutabaga, she jumped right into their car with no hesitation! Clearly friendly and needing cared for, she was then brought to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter for assessment.

Liberated Legolas

Found as a stray near Tysons Corner, Legolas was suffering from a severe leg laceration causing him a great deal of pain. The Fairfax County Animal Shelter took in this little guy and Friends quickly approved funding for his amputation surgery. Amputations (especially for young pets) sound scary, but animals adapt to the change and tend to do very well once healed.

Unbreakable Umbro

Umbro is really one lucky guy....while his missing ears look a bit scary, this was actually the best solution to save him! You see, Umbro was brought to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter after a kind individual noticed the rough state of his ears after he was seen hanging around their home. After he was trapped and brought to the Shelter, veterinarians said that the spots all over Umbro's ears were in fact cancer.

Auspicious Care for Aspen

Aspen was transferred to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter from another shelter in Roanoke, VA. Upon arrival, he was determined to have a serious case of bloat, which is when a dog's stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid and subsequently twists, creating an emergency circumstance.
